Program Description

Wellspring New York is one of the most famous - and most effective - weight loss camps exclusively for young women. Accredited by the American Camp Association and located on picturesque Lower St. Regis Lake at Paul Smith's College in the Adirondack Mountains of northern New York, campers have access to state-of-the-art facilities in the middle of a campus that Newsweek magazine named one of America's best for "resort-style living."

In an environment that is extremely safe and supportive of young women working to lose weight, Wellspring New York participants learn how to prepare low-fat, low-density delicious meals through gourmet cooking classes led by a professional chef and off-campus restaurant and grocery shopping outings.

The highly trained staff at Wellspring New York is expert in helping young women stay motivated to achieve lasting weight loss both at camp and after returning home, through our renowned one-year continuing care program. Wellspring employs master's and doctoral level therapists trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy to work with campers individually and in groups to improve stress management and coping skills and work through any issues that might be contributing to the excess weight. Wellspring New York participants average a weight loss of 4 pounds per week, and 70% of Wellspring campers maintain or continue their weight loss at home.

Campers not only have a blast doing traditional camp activities like campfires, talent shows, and game nights, but they also enjoy activities like Pilates, personal training, water aerobics, canoeing, rock climbing, swimming, soccer, yoga, and countless others. Starting off with the morning walk, participants track at least 10,000 steps per day on their pedometers and learn about the role movement plays in weight loss and a healthy lifestyle. Campers are encouraged to try new activities and clubs, strengthen the skills they already have, and find ways to make fitness fun.
