Program Description

Surrounded by mountains on one side and ocean on the other, Wellspring Vancouver campers have an unparalleled opportunity to experience one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Located on the campus of Quest University, one hour's drive from Vancouver and a short drive from Whistler, the Wellspring Vancouver base camp features brand new, state-of-the-art dormitories, dining halls, and athletic facilities, as well as access to nearby natural attractions such as the Coast Mountains, Howe Sound, Squamish River, and Shannon Falls.

Every aspect of the Wellspring program is designed to produce lasting change in habits and lifestyle, not merely rapid short-term weight loss. Between team sports and workouts on campus and outdoor adventure trips rappelling, zip-lining, and kayaking in an area known as "The Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada," campers enjoy three low-fat, low-density meals and two healthy snacks a day, quiet time to write in their self-monitoring journals, and classes on nutrition and cooking.

Unlike fat camps or diet camps, Wellspring Vancouver is invested in the long-term health and success of our campers. Every camper attends four sessions per week with a cognitive-behavioral therapist to discuss goal-setting, self-regulation, stress management, and coping skills that are essential to long-term weight loss success.

Campers are never alone in their quest for better health. Surrounded by master's or doctoral level therapists, called "behavioral coaches," and a staff of nutrition and culinary specialists, campers receive plenty of guidance and support. Even after camp ends, teens are encouraged to stay in communication with their behavioral coach, maintain their self-monitoring journal, and contact fellow campers online through Wellspring's one-year continuing care program. Campers average a weight loss of 4 pounds per week, and 70% of Wellspring campers maintain or continue their weight loss at home.

By the end of their four, six, or eight-week session, campers have transformed physically as well as mentally. They become self-regulators who can set realistic, achievable goals and stay committed to health and long-term weight control even in the face of challenge.
