Program Description

Calling all boys and girls ages 11 to 18! Wellspring Pennsylvania is currently enrolling campers for a summer of new experiences, new friends, and dramatic weight loss. Ranked by Consumers Digest as the most effective weight loss programs, Wellspring has recorded greater long-term weight losses than traditional weight loss camps.

Based at historic Washington & Jefferson College just southwest of Pittsburgh, Wellspring Pennsylvania is ideally located to take advantage of the region's many state and national parks, as well as the state-of-the-art fitness facilities and accommodations on campus. Whether campers enjoy traditional camp activities like swimming, campfires, and sports or prefer a more adventurous approach that includes hiking, biking, and rafting, campers experience a completely transformative summer at Wellspring Pennsylvania.

With a limit of 50 campers per four, six, or eight-week session, Wellspring Pennsylvania provides a level of support and individualized attention unmatched by traditional weight loss camps. Campers are served breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two snacks per day made up of "controlled" food and "uncontrolled" foods such as fat-free yogurts, cottage cheese, soups, fruits, and vegetables, which campers may eat until full and satisfied.

The Wellspring approach is simple and sustainable, with a few fundamental components: a low-fat diet, taking at least 10,000 steps per day, and working through underlying issues with a cognitive-behavioral therapist. In individual and group sessions, campers work on goal-setting, decision-making, relapse prevention, frustration tolerance, and stress management to ensure that their weight losses are maintained, if not improved upon, at home. Campers average a weight loss of 4 pounds per week, and 70% of Wellspring campers maintain or continue their weight loss at home.

When families stand behind their child's weight loss effort, campers achieve even greater success at home. Wellspring Pennsylvania offers a two-day family workshop during camp designed to educate parents about the Wellspring approach, and offers continuing support and education one year after camp ends.
