Program Description

The world's second weight-loss boarding school for children and teens ages 11-18 (grades 7 through 12), Wellspring Academy of the Carolinas offers a comprehensive academic curriculum, activities young people love, and an approach that has yielded some of the best long-term weight loss results ever recorded.

Located on a 220-acre campus bordered by Pisgah, Nantahala, and Cherokee National Forests, Dupont and Gorges State Parks, and the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, Wellspring Academy of the Carolinas takes advantage of its incredible surroundings to provide students with every opportunity to learn, laugh, and grow.

The Wellspring Academy of the Carolinas core curriculum meets North Carolina and national standards and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Students take a full load of core courses each semester, along with electives and a complete education in nutrition, cooking, and healthy living. With smaller class sizes and plenty of individualized attention, recent reviews show that student grade point averages at Wellspring Academy improved 27.5% over the most recently completed semester at home.

In between classes, students enjoy an endless array of activities including skateboarding, yoga, personal training, team sports, aerobics classes, and our ropes course challenge and zip line. They also participate in counseling sessions with their "behavioral coach," a master's or doctoral level therapist trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy, to overcome emotional barriers to long-term weight control.

While weekdays at Wellspring Academy of the Carolinas are spent in the classroom and participating in on-campus activities, most weekends you'll find our students off-campus on adventure trips whitewater kayaking, mountain biking, caving, rock climbing, fly fishing, and more.
